Refund Policy

This Refund Policy explains when and how you can request a refund for a SteakChef Premium subscription. It forms part of our Terms of Service and should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

This policy is written to comply with the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.

1. Statutory Cooling-Off Right (14 Days)

If you are a consumer in the UK or EEA, you have a statutory right to cancel a digital subscription within 14 calendar days of purchase without giving any reason. This is your "cooling-off period" under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

Important: When you subscribe to SteakChef Premium, you are asked to expressly consent to us beginning to provide the digital service immediately, before the 14-day cooling-off period expires. By ticking this box and proceeding with payment, you acknowledge that:

  • You request immediate access to Premium features
  • You will lose your right to a full refund once the service has been fully performed
  • If the service has been partially performed, any refund will be proportional to the unused portion of the billing period

If you have not accessed any Premium features after subscribing, you retain your full 14-day right to cancel and receive a full refund. To exercise this right, contact us within 14 days of purchase at [email protected].

2. Refunds for Service Failure

Outside the cooling-off period, we will consider a refund where there has been a material failure on our part that prevented you from accessing the Service for a significant portion of your billing period. Examples include:

  • Extended service outages lasting more than 24 consecutive hours
  • A technical fault that prevented you from using core Premium features for a material portion of your billing period
  • A billing error that resulted in you being charged incorrectly

In these cases, we may offer a pro-rated refund for the affected period, a credit to your account, or an extension of your subscription, at our discretion.

3. Non-Refundable Circumstances

The following circumstances are generally not eligible for a refund:

  • You changed your mind about the subscription after the cooling-off period
  • You forgot to cancel before the renewal date
  • You did not use the Service during the billing period
  • You were dissatisfied with AI-generated recipe quality (AI outputs are inherently variable; we encourage you to use the free tier to evaluate the Service before subscribing)
  • Your account was suspended or terminated due to a violation of our Terms of Service or Acceptable Use Policy

4. How to Request a Refund

To request a refund, please contact us at [email protected] with the following information:

  • Your registered email address
  • The date of the charge you are disputing
  • A brief description of the reason for your refund request

We will acknowledge your request within 2 business days and aim to resolve it within 10 business days. Approved refunds will be processed back to your original payment method via Stripe and typically appear within 5–10 business days depending on your bank.

5. Cancellation vs. Refund

Cancelling your subscription and requesting a refund are two separate actions:

  • Cancellation stops future billing. You retain access to Premium features until the end of your current billing period. You can cancel at any time from your Account Settings.
  • Refund returns money already paid. Cancellation does not automatically trigger a refund; you must contact us separately if you believe you are entitled to one.

6. Your Statutory Rights

Nothing in this Refund Policy affects your statutory rights under UK law, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. If you are unsure of your rights, you can seek advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau or the UK Government consumer protection pages.
