Terms of Service

Last updated: 3 March 2026  ·  Effective: 3 March 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of steakchef.app (the "Service"), operated by SteakChef ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales and are intended to comply with the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, and other applicable UK consumer protection legislation.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are between 13 and 18, you must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements.

The Service is available to users worldwide, but is primarily designed for users in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. If you access the Service from outside these regions, you are responsible for compliance with local laws.

2. Accounts

To access most features, you must register for an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to keep your account details up to date. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for all activity that occurs under your account.

You must notify us immediately at [email protected] if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with this obligation.

You may not create accounts using automated means or create accounts for the purpose of abusing the Service.

3. Subscriptions & Billing

SteakChef offers a free tier and a paid SteakChef Premium subscription. Subscription fees, billing cycles, and included features are displayed on the Subscription page and at checkout.

All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. Your payment details are stored securely by Stripe and are not accessible to us. By subscribing, you authorise Stripe to charge your payment method on a recurring basis at the start of each billing period.

Subscription fees are stated inclusive of any applicable VAT. We will issue a VAT receipt for each payment where required by law.

We reserve the right to change subscription pricing. We will give you at least 30 days' notice of any price increase, and you may cancel before the new price takes effect.

4. Cancellation & Cooling-Off Rights

You may cancel your subscription at any time from your Account Settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you will retain access to Premium features until that date.

Statutory cooling-off right (UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013): If you are a consumer in the UK or EEA, you have a right to cancel a digital subscription within 14 days of purchase without giving any reason ("cooling-off period"). However, by proceeding with your subscription and accessing Premium features immediately, you expressly request that we begin providing the digital service before the cooling-off period expires. You acknowledge that you will lose your right to cancel without charge once the service has been fully performed, or that partial performance will reduce any refund proportionally.

To exercise your cooling-off right, contact us at [email protected] within 14 days of your initial purchase.

5. Refunds

Outside the statutory cooling-off period, subscription fees are generally non-refundable. We will consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis where there has been a technical failure on our part that prevented you from accessing the Service for a material portion of your billing period.

For full details of our refund process, please read our Refund Policy.

6. AI-Generated Content

The Service uses artificial intelligence to generate personalised steak recipes and cooking guidance based on your inputs. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • AI-generated content is provided for informational and culinary guidance purposes only and does not constitute professional dietary, nutritional, or medical advice.
  • AI models can produce inaccurate, incomplete, or inconsistent outputs. You should exercise your own judgement and verify any safety-critical information (such as internal cooking temperatures) against authoritative sources.
  • We do not guarantee that AI-generated recipes will suit your individual dietary requirements, allergies, or health conditions. Always check ingredients for allergens.
  • We are not liable for any harm arising from reliance on AI-generated content.

7. Your Content

You retain ownership of any content you submit to the Service (such as journal entries, reviews, or blog contributions). By submitting content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, display, reproduce, and distribute that content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service.

You represent that you have all necessary rights to the content you submit and that it does not infringe any third-party rights or violate any applicable law.

We may remove any content that violates these Terms or our Acceptable Use Policy without notice.

8. Intellectual Property

All content, design, code, trademarks, and other materials on the Service (excluding your content and AI-generated recipes) are owned by or licensed to SteakChef and are protected by UK and international intellectual property laws.

AI-generated recipes produced by the Service in response to your inputs are provided to you for your personal, non-commercial use. You may not resell, sublicence, or commercially exploit AI-generated content without our prior written consent.

Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you beyond the limited licence to use the Service as described herein.

9. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or its related systems
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access the Service without our prior written consent
  • Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity
  • Transmit any harmful, offensive, defamatory, or illegal content
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
  • Circumvent any access controls, rate limits, or usage restrictions

10. Acceptable Use

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Acceptable Use Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

11. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party services including Stripe (payments) and Google (authentication). Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable consumer protection legislation, which cannot be excluded or limited.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total fees paid by you to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) £50.

We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with the Service.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for: (i) death or personal injury caused by our negligence; (ii) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; (iii) any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SteakChef, its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service in violation of these Terms or any applicable law.

15. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service at any time if you breach these Terms or if we reasonably believe your use poses a risk to the Service or other users. Where possible, we will give you reasonable notice and an opportunity to remedy the breach.

You may delete your account at any time from your Account Settings. Upon deletion, your personal data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Sections 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, and 17 survive termination of these Terms.

16. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email (if you have an account) and by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Service and may cancel your subscription in accordance with Section 4.

17. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except that consumers in Scotland, Northern Ireland, or the EEA may bring proceedings in their local courts.

Before initiating formal proceedings, we encourage you to contact us to resolve any dispute informally. We will endeavour to respond within 10 business days.
